Charles County resident Judson Edward Lewis, of Newburg, was pronounced dead on Monday, Dec. 5, after crashing into Nokesville, Virginia resident Johnnie Edward Hurst, Jr., 55, on Maryland Route 234 in Faulkner on Monday, Dec. 5.
Troopers from the Maryland State Police La Plata Barrack responded to the crash scene near Edgewater Drive shortly before 4 p.m. on Monday afternoon, where there was a report of a “serious motor vehicle collision” that required the response of the Maryland State Police CRASH Team.
According to investigators, Lewis was driving a 2016 Ford Edge west on Route 234, while Hurst was in a 2018 Peterbilt truck tractor towing a semi-trailer east at the time of the crash.
Police say that “for unknown reasons, the Ford crossed the center line and entered the eastbound lane,” colliding head-on with the Peterbilt.
Lewis was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said, while Hurst was transported by paramedics to the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Troopers from the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division (CVED) responded to the scene to complete an inspection of the Peterbilt.
The fatal crash remains under investigation.
